COVID-19 Get the facts from reputable sources

While there is much media coverage of the COVID-19 virus it is important to be sure the information is reputable and up to date. Here are the sites that will keep you informed. 

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, COVID-19 causes infections of the nose, throat and lungs and it is most commonly spread through: 

  • The air by coughing and sneezing
  • Close personal contact such as touching or shaking hands
  • Touching something with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose or eyes before washing your hands. 

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, coughing and difficulty breathing with current information stating these symptoms may present up to 14 days after exposure.

While there is much media coverage of the COVID-19 virus it is important to be sure the information is reputable and up to date. The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) website also contains helpful information on how  to keep you and your loved ones safe from the coronavirus and other illnesses. Following are some key highlights

  • The two most important things you can do are to wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap for 20 seconds and avoid touching your face especially eyes, nose and mouth.     
  • Come up with a new greeting that doesn't involve shaking hands.
  • If you are sick, stay at home and avoid others. 
  • Disinfect door handles or any common surfaces.
